Review Tour + Giveaway: Bitten by Mistake by Annabelle Jacobs

Blurb:

BittenbyMistake-fFrom animosity to searing passion in a lunar cycle… but can their bond survive?

Wolf shifter Nathan Kohl’s pack is his whole life. Arrogant and handsome, he avoids commitment to anything or anyone outside of his pack. He works hard, plays hard, and pursues humans as lovers because there’s little to no chance of him forming a permanent bond. However, when Jared Taylor comes into Nathan’s life, every rule is broken.

After a bad experience, Jared vowed to never get involved with another shifter, no matter how much they got under his skin. Despite being physically attracted to Nathan, who’s all kinds of hot, Jared only sees an arrogant, domineering bastard.

A disastrous case of mistaken identity throws Nathan and Jared together until the next full moon. Forced to spend the next twenty-eight days in close proximity, they can no longer ignore the powerful attraction between them. Passion ignites, and their relationship takes a turn neither of them wanted.

But when the full moon comes, everything might change again.

I had high expectations for this one when I started it because I love Annabelle Jacobs’ books and quite like shifter stories. But Bitten by Mistake and me.. we just didn’t “click”. At the beginning it was a bit hard to really get into the story. I couldn’t really relate to either MC and there was too much push and pull but I didn’t feel the chemistry.

Jared mentions again and again how much he hates shifters. But his actions spoke a totally different language so that it all seemed more like an act and not a genuine hate for shifters. And because of that it was hard to follow along as he went from “Oh I hate you!” to “I love you”. I do understand that Nathan and Jared had formed a bond because of the bite, so despite Jareds negative feelings toward Nathan he couldn’t stop himself wanting Nathan physically. And Annabelle definitely did a great job of describing that pull they had towards each other. But I had problems to believe in their emotional bond. (I hope that makes sense.)
And one minor thing that kind of bugged me.. how would Nathan not know of the changes in law that affect him personally? Wouldn’t he keep a closer look to that because when something happens he’s the one who’s f*cked.

The pace of the story picked a bit up toward the end and that’s when I started to really like it and actually get into it. I liked how the book ended. It was definitely not what I had expected but I liked it even more because of that.

What I really enjoyed about this book was how the packs were structured. It’s a bit different to other shifter stories I’ve read and I liked the originality of it.
Overall this was a solid read, a bit slow at first but better toward the end so I’d recommend it.
